URHere Swap

Those who know me well are fully aware that I adore Starbucks. When I saw on Instagram that Suki was hosting a swap for the new You Are Here Starbucks mugs, I jumped at the chance. Living out in the ‘burbs like I do, I had to go on a mini quest to find the Seattle mug, but find it I did. Inspired by the colors of the mug, I whipped up a quick mug rug for my swap partner. To me, the mug rug looks like one of two things: the Seattle skyline on a cloudy day, or majestic Mt. Rainier. I also sent a few other things, including a bar of Theo chocolate, which is made locally.

On the flip side of the swap, I love what my swap partner, Melissa of Crafty Goods, sent me. Instead of sending me a mug from her home state, she picked up the Banff mug for me while on vacation, which was super sweet of her. (Banff is in Alberta, Canada. I had to look it up.) Melissa also sent me an adorable zippered pouch in typewriter fabric, which I love, several fat quarters of Alison Glass Sun Print Feathers, tailor’s chalk, and lots of chocolate. I feel quite spoiled.

A big thanks to Suki for organizing this swap and Melissa for being an awesome swap partner. If you are interested in participating, I believe there is a waiting list for the next round. Stop by the Flickr group for more information.

*Picture-Perfect* Polaroid Block Swap!

Over the last few months, I've seen several cute quilts featuring fussy-cut Polaroid blocks, but I never thought about making one myself until Debbie at A Quilter's Table started a Picture-Perfect Polaroid Block Swap. If you are interested, sign up via the Flickr group. Should be a fun swap! The swap ends on August 15, 2012.

Dots Swap! Summer 2011

I don’t know about you, but I love dots! Most of the projects I’ve worked on lately include dots of some kind. If you love dotted fabric as much as I do, then Dots Swap! is for you. It’s a chance to swap your dotted quilting fabric and receive a variety of different dotted fabric in return. The swap is hosted by Debbie of A Quilter’s Table and myself, and we would love for you to join us!

Fabric and Swap Details:
Each swap member will select four fat quarters of 100% cotton dotted quilting fabric, either from their stash or newly purchased. You will then send one fat quarter to each of four swap partners and receive four different fat quarters of dotted fabric in return. We will leave the sign-up open through Thursday, July 21 (one week from today) and send you an email with your assigned swap partners by Thursday, July 28. Then you have two weeks to prepare and ship your fat quarter dotted fabric to your swap partners (that’s a deadline of August 11).

To Sign Up:
Comment below (or at A Quilter’s Table) if you would like to join the swap. After you sign up, email the following info to one of us (either Debbie at drfjeske (at) gmail (dotcom) or Rachel at snippetsofsweetness (at) gmail (dotcom)):
  • Your name
  • Your blog address (it’s okay if you don’t have a blog!)
  • Your mailing address
  • Whether or not you are willing to ship international
(Remember, your sign up is not complete until we get an email from you!)

The sign-up starts today. You can grab a button below or on the sidebar. Hope to see you in the Dots Swap!

Family Scrap Swap

I come from a strong family tradition of quilt making. My mother is a quilter, my husband’s grandmother is a quilter, and several of my cousins are quilters as well. Recently my mom organized a scrap swap with a couple of my out-of-state cousins. I really enjoyed going through my scraps and picking out fabrics that I thought they would like. Receiving scraps from them was fun as well.

I received a lot of blue and tan/brown fabrics and was having a hard time deciding what to do with them. I found the answer via last week’s WIP Wednesday event on Freshly Pieced. I really like the Bluberri Breezes quilt from Angel Scraps Quilting. I’m going to call my version Blueberry Pie. I think I’ll work in some of the solids that I have been stashing recently. The small bowl contains the fabrics that I will start my Blueberry Pie quilt with. The large bowl is the other scraps that I still have to play with. Some will end up in my baby’s color book, and I’m looking forward to finding projects for the rest!
